Hot Topic: Can you sum it in six?

Can you sum up what your company does in six?

Not six minutes. Six words.

That was a challenge set to attendees at One Nucleus’s Boston Bootcamp in the US in April.

It was discussed at One Nucleus’s On Helix event in Cambridge a couple of weeks ago, and it really grabbed me.

It grabbed me because it’s very hard.

But it is also essential.

It’s a seemingly impossible task – especially in life sciences.

Of course you can’t explain your AI drug discovery platform, or your in vivo CAR-T therapy, or your diagnostics technology, in six words.  Let alone also explain why that platform, therapy, or technology is better than your competitors!

The thought is ludicrous. You have to leave virtually everything out!

But that’s the point.

You have to reduce it and reduce it and reduce it until you have the essence.

The essence of your core proposition, mind, not of everything you do.

This is important for two reasons.

Internally – it helps you and your company focus on your Unique Selling Proposition, the guiding star towards which everything should point.

Externally – because people only remember so much. You are competing for their attention, so you better make it memorable.

And shorter is usually more memorable.

The end.
